This portal brings together a range of equality metrics, with the aim of informing action to tackle inequalities and measuring progress towards this. The portal has been launched to support the NCEI's report Reducing cancer inequality: evidence, progress and making it happen.

Cancer incidence statistics for the diagnosis period 2006-2010

The Cervical Screening and Cancer e-Atlas provides up to date combined information on screening (coverage, timeliness and results) and cancer (incidence, mortality and survival) throughout England.

The General Practice Profiles bring together a range of process and outcomes information relevant to cancer in primary care. They provide readily available and comparative information for benchmarking and reviewing variations at a General Practice level. They are intended to help primary care think about clinical practice and service delivery in cancer and in particular, early detection and diagnosis. They are not for the purpose of performance management and there are no 'right or wrong' answers.

Cancer e-Atlas has been developed to improve access to cancer statistics across England and provides incidence and mortality for the main types of cancers in men and women.

The Skin Cancer Profiles enable you to compare indicators such as incidence and mortality rates for malignant melanoma and influencing factors such as deprivation across Local Authority and Primary Care Trust (PCT) areas in England and against the England average. This will help commissioners and others to identify areas and populations to target with skin cancer prevention and early diagnosis support and services.

The Skin Cancer Hub has been developed as part of the Skin Cancer Prevention Initiative, funded by the National Cancer Action Team and led by the South West Public Health Observatory (SWPHO). The SWPHO leads on the analysis and collection of skin cancer data on behalf of the UK Association of Cancer Registries. The Skin Cancer Hub is designed to help inform and support professionals and the public about skin cancer prevention and early diagnosis.

The United Kingdom Head and Neck e-Atlas covers the main subgroups of head and neck cancers for the whole of the United Kingdom. The aim of the e-Atlas is to provide the public, health care professionals, commissioners and health service managers with basic information on incidence and mortality for the main types of head and neck cancers in males and females.

Key data on urological cancer for each Local Authority, Primary Care Trust and Cancer Network in England presented via InstantAtlas mapping tool.

The Urological Cancer Hub was developed on behalf of the National Cancer Intelligence Network by the South West Public Health Observatory (SWPHO). SWPHO leads on the analysis and collection of urological cancer data on behalf of the UK Association of Cancer Registries. The Urological Cancer Hub is designed to help support and inform professionals and the public about the current picture and past trends of urological cancers in England.

The UK Head and Neck Cancer e-Atlas includes incidence and mortality data by Cancer Network, and Strategic Health Authority. The latest data displayed in the Cancer Network and SHA e-Atlases for cancer incidence is is 2007-09 and 2008-10 for mortality.

Provides overview information to aid in promoting the health of children, young people and families by local authority, (district and county)for the East of England.

These profiles display each local authority's indicator values, as well as North West abd England average and inter-quartile range of North West Local Authority for comparison purposes.

The data and tools directory is a list of data and tools which are available to those working in the field of child and maternal health. It gives easy access to a quality-assured overview of existing analytical toolkits, presented in categories to make searching effective.

DfE contains a lot of child-related information. Of particular interest is the (publicly available) information on children at school such as levels of special educational needs, school absenteeism, exclusions and GCSE attainment. Looked-after children are also covered.

DMIT allow commissioners to compare the performance of organisations in their area for emergency admissions for children with diabetes, epilepsy and asthma against the national average, the top performing 5% of organisations and statistical neighbours.

The Healthy Weight for Children Hub is an interactive network to help tackle the rising numbers of overweight children in the South West. The Hub is an interactive information network designed to improve access to the latest evidence and best practice in the South West.

Child Health Profiles provide a snapshot of child health and well-being for each local council in England using key health indicators, which enables comparison locally, regionally and nationally. They are designed to help local councils and the NHS decide where to target resources to tackle health inequality in their local area.

The Outcomes versus expenditure tool - Maternity and Newborn allows you to pinpoint opportunities to improve outcomes and productivity in your local area for maternity and neonatal services. You can use the tool to compare expenditure within a fixed area with service performance in terms of health and wellbeing outcomes; identify where either your expenditure or performance is significantly different to that of other organisations; see where you are an outlier; and find better performing organisations you might be able to learn from about what works well and how you can replicate it.

PREview is a set of planning resources to help commissioners, managers and professionals to target preventative resources, in particular around the Healthy Child Programme, where they are most needed. PREview is based on evidence identifying the factors in pregnancy and infancy that are associated with outcomes for children at five years.

All staff working with children and young people need the appropriate safeguarding and child protection training relevant to their role. The Safeguarding Children Training Directory helps you find the training you and your workforce need. It is based on key guidance produced by the Royal Colleges and government about the skills and competencies required of staff when working with children and young people. The directory describes different categories of staff and links to the required learning outcomes and training resources for each.

This set of self assessment tools is designed to help commissioners and local health economies assess their progress in implementing key national policy. The tools are based on the components of the National Service Framework for Children, Young People and Maternity Services and other key policy documents.

Practice profiles for Yorkshire & Humber region 2008/2009.

Health Profiles give a snapshot overview of health for each local authority and region in England. They are designed to help local government and health services make decisions and plans to improve local people's health and reduce health inequalities. The profiles present a set of key health indicators that show how the area compares to the national and regional average.

HPS plan and deliver effective and specialist national services which co-ordinate, strengthen and support activities aimed at protecting all the people of Scotland from infectious and environmental hazards.

These profiles are designed to assist GPs, consortia and PCTs to ensure that they are providing and commissioning effective and appropriate healthcare services for their local population. In addition to viewing individual practice profiles, you can draw together a cluster of practices and view the resulting profile. Each constituent practice can be compared with the cluster and the England average. Alternatively, practices can be compared with their PCT and England.

The programme budgeting atlases enable PCTs to link programme budgeting expenditure data, as presented in the programme budgeting spreadsheet, with a wide range of outcome and activity data. Data are presented for each programme in the form of interactive maps and correlation plots.

This provides comparator data for NHS commissioning and provider organisations, enabling users to investigate aspects of local activity, costs and outcomes. It includes over 140 comparators at aggregate level by GP practice, PCT level, Provider level or above.

The Audit Commission has published 'Healthy balance: a review of public health performance and spending'. This briefing estimates that 21 billion of NHS funds has been allocated in 2009/10 on the basis of health inequalities.

Local Alcohol Profiles for England (LAPE) updated October 2009 - comprising 23 updated indicators, including new data for the National Indicator 39 hospital admissions for alcohol-related harm.

The National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) relates to the process of collecting, collating and analysing information from and for those involved in the drug treatment sector

The South East Local Authority Profiles 2010/11 present the NDTMS information on clients in treatment between 1st April 2010 and 31st March 2011. There are 49 indicators presented in three domains: demographics, drug use and treatment. Data is displayed on two geography levels, i.e. Local Authority (LA) and Drug Action Team (DAT). The application allows you to view the information as a map, bar chart and within a table.

The dynamic map shows the quarterly trend in the age standardised rate of clients in drug treatment by Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) of residence.

The local basket of indicators helps to support local action to achieve the Government's national inequalities targets for life expectancy & infant mortality, by highlighting information relevant to addressing the targets and assisting local areas with monitoring progress towards reducing health inequalities.

A collection of the dashboards (updated December 2010) for each of the seven PCTs for Yorkshire and Humber, detailing the progress made to reach targets in life expectancy and all age, all cause mortality.

This set of dashboards focus on life expectancy and all age all cause mortality (AAACM) for the former spearhead PCTs in Yorkshire and the Humber. They include work undertaken by the Health Inequalities National Support Team around numbers of deaths that will need to be averted in order for those PCTs to hit their AAACM target for 2011, as well as APHO calculated slope indices of inequality for life expectancy, cancer and cardiovascular disease.

The Gap Measurement Tool provides detailed information on the nature and extent of health inequalities across England. It shows inequality gaps in mortality rates within and between areas by grouping local populations on the basis of relative levels of deprivation. Combining data for the years 2005 to 2009, the Gap Measurement Tool displays age and sex-specific death rates for a range of causes of death. For the period 2001 to 2009 by year, it also displays the annual trend in mortality rates. Results are available for all Local Authorities and NHS geographies (at 2009), as well as England as a whole.

This tool shows the contribution of causes of death to the gap in life expectancy between the most deprived quintile of the selected Local Authority and a variety of comparators. It enables users to examine the effect on the gap of introducing selected interventions, e.g. smoking cessation.

The tool enables local areas to monitor their progress towards the national health inequalities targets for life expectancy, mortality from heart disease and stroke, and mortality from cancers.

A set of PCT/LA specific briefings setting out key local data from a set of new age and ethnic group specific forecasts which have been produced by the University of Leeds.

The analysis has been segmented geographically to provide analysis and benchmarking at regional, PCT, local authority and Middle Super Output (MSOA) level. There has been further segmentation by population group using the people to places and rural urban classification, ethnicity and national deprivation quintiles.

This calculator enables users with death and population data for small areas to calculate life expectancy figures. The template is for an abridged life table using 5-year age intervals with a final age interval of 85+.

Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) are record level patient data collected by the Department of Health from every NHS hospital in England and Wales. Each year approximately 13+ million HES records for inpatients and day cases are generated, containing individual patient details such as age, sex, dates of admission and discharge, diagnoses, treatments and operations, NHS number and postcode.

The Injury observatory is an international collaborative venture representing public health observatories from Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and regions of England. The Health Survey for England (HSE) is a series of annual surveys designed to measure health and health related behaviours in adults and children, in England.

The Department of Health, working with academic and commercial research agencies, has developed a segmentation of the adult population of England based on behaviour, attitudes and lifestyles. Originally aimed at social marketing and behaviour change practitioners, the project set out to map the key drivers of behaviour across six public health priority areas: o Smoking o Obesity o Alcohol o Substance misuse o Sexual health o Mental health In addition, the survey also measured physical activity. The Segmentation Model, which builds on existing research and knowledge, is one of the most rigorously constructed public sector segmentation models to date. It offers social marketing, behaviour change and public health practitioners insights into the needs, lifestyles and motivations of different individuals and groups within society.

Prevalence estimates for key lifestyle variables at PCT level and was designed to enable comparisons to be made between the most deprived fifth of Middle Super Upper Output Area (MSOAs) in each PCT with the rest of the PCT population.

The EMPHO e-atlases are interactive mapping tools for the analysis of data on the prevalence of obesity and its determinants for the East Midlands. Data are presented at different geographic levels depending on data availability, and are presented for determinants relevant to both adults and children.

A collection of the key data sources of physical activity in the population comprised of surveys and reports.

These profiles present information on behaviours relating to health, as well as their impact on health in Wales through outcome measures. It provides a snapshop of local patterns in Wales displayed in traffic light tables, and also contain some comparisons to other countries. The topics covered are diet, physical activity and obesity; smoking; alcohol; illicit drugs; sexual health and dental health. For the first time smoking-attributable mortality has been calculated in Wales.

The Service Snapshot - Obesity has been developed in partnership with the National Obesity Observatory (NOO) and the National Support Team.

A Diabetes Community Health Profile overview is available for every PCT in England. It can be used to benchmark against other PCTs and provides a starting point for needs assessment work. A series of Children and Young People Diabetes Community Health Profiles have been produced for each PCT and those provider trusts which participated in the 2009 Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Survey National Diabetes Survey.

Variation in Inpatient Activity: diabetes (VIA: Diabetes) allows users to compare information on inpatient activity for those with and without diabetes to provide evidence on differing care patterns.

The Sexual Health Balanced Scorecard provides a snapshot of sexual health for each Primary Care Trust in England. Interactive maps and charts enable comparisons to be made regionally and nationally across a range of indicators relating to teenage pregnancy, abortions, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and other relevant issues. From May/June 2012 it will include data by Local Authority.

EMPHO has produced interactive maps of under 18 conception data. Maps are available at Local Authority level, with a number of ways of viewing the data available, and also at Ward level, where the maps show whether the Ward's under 18 conception rate is significantly different to the England rate.

The South West Public Health Observatory (SWPHO) was commissioned by the National End of Life Care Intelligence Network (NEoLCIN) to develop a set of indicators to help identify and understand variation in end of life care across England. The first wave of indicators focus on place and cause of death, broken down by age and sex, by Local Authority area in England. To generate comparisons at a more local level, the Local Authority boundaries set before April 2009 (before larger Unitary Authorities were created) have been used. The Profiles are presented using the InstantAtlas mapping tool, which displays the indicators in map, chart and table format for ease of comparison
