February 2012

Happy February! Welcome to the February edition of the National Library for Public Health newsletter. We are also on Twitter, follow us or get in touch at http:/twitter.com/NLPHEngland

NHS Evidence

Since May 2011 The National Library for Public Health content has been integrated into the NHS Evidence search. From April 2012 NHS Evidence will produce and circulate the e-Newsletter on public health content. The team at NHS Evidence value your input as users of the service and encourage you to send comments and suggestions to contactus@evidence.nhs.uk

This is particularly important at this time of change as NICE wishes to ensure that the service continues to develop to meet the needs of the public health workforce.

A complementary letter will be issued shortly to all subscribers to this newsletter giving them the option to choose whether their contact details can be passed on to NHS Evidence for the distribution of the new public health content newsletter

National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence

Evidence for the public health workforce

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) provides evidence-based public health guidance which makes recommendations for populations and individuals on activities, policies and strategies that can help prevent disease or improve health.

In a time of structural and policy change, knowing where to find the evidence to support action to improve health and well being can be difficult. We are keen to hear your views about online information products currently available. We want to understand how online information is used to support decision making in public health and to hear from you about how it can be developed.

Join us in an interactive, focus group based event where we will be demonstrating products currently available from NICE and exploring what information you need about effectiveness and cost-effectiveness in public health. In addition, you can share your views by taking part in our online survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PHInfoNeeds2012.

Venue: National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence MidCity Place, 71 High Holborn, London WC1V 6NA

Date: 28 February 2012 Time: 10.00 – 14.00

Booking Information: Email user.research@nice.org.uk to book your place.

Places are strictly limited – so book early to avoid disappointment. Expenses for subsistence and travel will be met in accordance with NICE policy.

The library has been developed to provide high quality evidence e-based information on all aspects of public health.

It is designed for those working in the field of public health by providing a single source of access to web based evidence on public health. It was developed as part of the Department of Health Information and Intelligence Strategy by the North East Public Health Observatory. It replaces the Public Health Electronic Library (PHeL).

The National Library for Public Health does not contain patient information on individual medical conditions.

The National Library for Public Health is based at the North East Public Health Observatory on behalf of Public Health Observatories in England and is funded by the Department of Health.
