NDTMS North East is one of the nine National Drug (and Alcohol) Treatment Monitoring System regional centres across England. It operates from within the North East Public Health Observatory (NEPHO) which is located at Durham University, Queen’s Campus, Stockton on Tees.
The purpose of the NDTMS centres is to obtain detailed accurate and timely information for reporting drug and alcohol treatment activity.

Summary of findings from two evaluations of Home Office Alcohol Arrest Referral pilot schemes Alcohol Arrest Referral (AAR) pilot schemes were set up to test whether providing brief alcohol interventions in a criminal justice setting could impact on re-offending. Two phases of Home Office-funded AAR pilots were set up across 12 police forces in total over the period October 2007 to September 2010. Both phases were evaluated separately using similar methodological approaches.

Trends in drug use in the North East - Released 21/12/2011This paper describes the trends of problematic drug use as recorded in the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) for patients resident in the North East at their first presentation for specialist drug treatment. Its purpose is to support the commissioners and providers of drug treatment, and provide intelligence to inform all concerned with the harms drug use can cause to both the individual and the community.
National Drug Treatment Monitoring System North East Regional Annual Report 2010 using data from 2008-09
This annual report is a historical look at the NDTMS data for adults in substance misuse treatment during 2008-09. It does not reflect the current national picture for adults substance misuse treatment in the North East for 2011 or, the 2010 national drug strategy. It reflects the first year in the National Drug strategy for 2008-2018 “Drugs: protecting families and communities, 2008”.
National Drug Treatment Monitoring System Young People's Annual Report 2008-09 Whilst alcohol data had been officially collected since NDTMS was established in 2004-05, 2008-09 was the first year alcohol data was included and available for analysis in the dataset received by the North East National Drug Treatment Monitoring System Team (NDTMS) from the National Treatment Agency (NTA) for Substance Misuse. This report is a historical look at the NDTMS data for young people during 2008-09. It does not reflect the current national picture for young people accessing substance misuse services in the North East for 2011 or, the 2010 national drug strategy.

06/07/2012 Experts urge new recovery focus for heroin addiction treatment Today a ground-breaking report by leading doctors and other experts in drug dependence has been launched about the proper ways in which prescribing medication can help heroin addicts break the hold of their addiction and recover from dependence. The report is the product of a two-year inquiry by GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, service users, and providers from both the NHS and voluntary sectors. It was chaired by one of Britain’s leading addiction specialists, Prof John Strang of the National Addiction Centre.

06/06/2012 'Statistics on Alcohol: England 2012' confirms continuing upward admissions trend The latest annual statistics on alcohol for England 2012 have been released by the ONS, confirming a continuing rise in alcohol-related and primary alcohol attributable hospital conditions. Alcohol-related admissions rose 11% on the previous year with primary diagnosis conditions up 2.1%.
