Occasional Paper No. 36 December 2009: Surveillance of infant mortality and its determinants: a feasibility study of the use of maternity unit data

The aim of this study was to explore the potential value of electronic birth records held by maternity units for the surveillance of determinants of infant mortality. The study assessed the feasibility of linking infant mortality data to clinical data on births held by selected maternity units, to explore the potential for enhanced regional surveillance of infant mortality.
