Progress and Prospects 2004/05

This is the fifth edition of Progress and Prospects, which describes the work of Public Health Observatories (PHOs) and the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO). The format of this document is slightly different to that of previous years. We have aimed to produce a shorter document which still provides a useful summary of the priorities and activities of PHOs.

The first part of this report describes how PHOs are supporting the delivery of the English Public Health White Paper, Choosing Health. We then summarise how PHOs are supporting effective public health practice and helping to build regional public health intelligence. Last, but not least, we describe how the APHO now embraces the four countries of the UK and Ireland and is developing strong links with Europe.
