Specialist Alcohol Treatment April to June 2008

Since 1st April 2008 all providers of specialist alcohol treatment have been submitting data to the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS). This interim reports shows that as at 30th June 2008, there were 146 adult and young people treatment providers in the North East, actively reporting to NDTMS for either drug or alcohol specialist treatment provision, of which 117 were providing specialised alcohol treatment. There were 4,269 people in treatment provided in the 12 North East DAT/PCT areas during the first quarter of 2008/09. Overall treatment rates in the North East are close to the national average, but there is an apparent fourfold variation in service provision across the region which is explored in the report.
