The Directorate of Social Care for the North East commissioned the North East Public Healthh Observatory (NEPHO) to undertake a project to identify ways of improving knowledgee transfer within the offender health community. This report represents the first phase of thiss work..

The report includes a review of the literature relating to knowledge transfer, focusing wheree possible on work within an offender health context. Through the use of interviews with keyy informants in the region, the work has identified some of the current processes off knowledge transfer across the offender health pathway in the North East. The importance of workers within health settings delivering services that are based onn evidence1based practice was discussed by many interviewees. There was an expectationn that individual workers had a responsibility to maintain their professional development andd knowledge and that this would also be supported by ~learninggTM organisations who have ann interest in developing services based on evidence, new ideas and innovations. Similarly,, accessing research and current practice was also regarded as a core element to thee commissioning process.
