National Library for Public Health

Introduction

The National Library for Public Health provides access to specialised information on public health on behalf of NICE (NHS Evidence). NHS Evidence is the new speciaslist evidence service that replaces the former National Library for Health and its Specialist Collections.

The National Library for Public Health continues to operate, resourced by the North East Public Health Observatory, (NEPHO). However, since May 2011 the National Library for Public Health web pages no longer exists as the specialist resources for public health are accessible via the redesigned NHS Evidence site. If you have added the National Library for Public Health web pages to your bookmarks and favourites then these links will work until early May 2011 but they will then be redirected to the main NHS Evidence site.

The new site is easy to search and provides access to a much wider choice of quality specialist evidence content. Users will be able to browse new clinical and public health topic pages – developed by experts - which will bring together the latest guidelines, high quality patient information, ongoing trials and other selected information including access to NICE pathways. Recent developments on the site have included a direct link to the Public Health resources, see NHS Evidence homepage and click on Public Health to see more on public health evidence.

The NLPH delivers evidence updates on certain topics. The NLPH is updated on a daily basis. We produce a monthly newsletter to highlight the latest content added to the library. You can subscribe or unsubscribe here.

NHS Evidence

Since May 2011 The National Library for Public Health content can be found in NHS Evidence. Simply follow the link on the front page and search the public health resources.

As the transition to the new interface is under way, you may temporarily find it harder to locate certain Public Health resources. Content and presentation of Public Health evidence will continue to be improved over the coming weeks and months. The library team are working with NHS Evidence on these developments. If you wish to contact us please send us an email to publichealth.library@durham.ac.uk

We continue to publish our newsletter on a monthly basis with the purpose of highlighting newly published evidence and the latest news on the Department of Health and Public Health England development. We hope you find this useful and would welcome any comments. We are now using mailing list software to manage and maintain our contacts. If you would like to be added or removed from our mailing list, please visit our mailing list manager.

If you have a query related to NHS Evidence use the direct email address contactus@evidence.nhs.uk

The library has been developed to provide high quality evidence e-based information on all aspects of public health.

It is designed for those working in the field of public health by providing a single source of access to web based evidence on public health. It was developed as part of the Department of Health Information and Intelligence Strategy by the North East Public Health Observatory. It replaces the Public Health Electronic Library (PHeL).

The National Library for Public Health does not contain patient information on individual medical conditions.

The National Library for Public Health is based at the North East Public Health Observatory on behalf of Public Health Observatories in England and is funded by the Department of Health.
